Imagine you just spent your life savings on the project of your dreams. Maybe it took you several years to complete and you just submitted it for review. Or, maybe you just gave a brilliant idea to your team leader at work. You practiced your delivery in front of the mirror until you sold yourself on the idea!
Now imagine the response you receive. Maybe your team leader gives you a sweet smile before turning your idea down flat. And the dream project? The reviewing committee practically yells, “No, thanks!”
What do you do with the rejection?
You don't have to be author in order to receive some glowing reviews along with negative criticism. You just have to be alive. In life you will receive commendations as well as negativity. And some people are just plain mean.
This is what I recommend:
- Shake what your mama gave you. Tip your chin up. Puff out your chest (just a little) and grin. You won't please everybody. Chances are if you believe in your work, others will too. Just keep trying.
- Live by the truth. I live by something I've found to be invaluable in my own life. “If you live by the praises of man, you'll die by their criticism.” In other words, don't ride the wave of emotions. People are fickle. Their opinions are subject to change. Just dig down deep and know that you've been given a dream that no one else can deliver quite like you can. Do what you do best, not for others but for you. Your Creator believes you can do it or else He never would've given you the dream.
In a nutshell, you can do it!
